| I thought id start my own movie recommendation thread. I watch a lot of movies i illegally download (sorry laxman) and i tend to download movies that arnt very big or well known in Australia. My first movie recommendation is a movie called Centurion. I never heard of this movie before i sore the ad on tv telling me to buy the dvd. Its based in the Medievil times like Roman warriors and all that which is what im into. A splinter group of Roman soldiers fight for their lives behind enemy lines after their legion is decimated in a devastating guerrilla attack. I am no movie expert but if i was to give this movie a quick rating it would probably be 7 out of 10. It may be a movie about Romans but the events that unfold in the movie are like nothing in any other movie. I wont reveal to much but imagine being on foot being hunted by expert trackers on horse back in the middle of nowhere. | |

| oh hey, Centurion. Yeah I enjoyed that movie, violent, interesting, just the kind of thing to watch over a weekend. I'd say right now a movie recommendation I'd give would be to Pirate Radio and The Invention of Lying. Pirate Radio is set during a time in the UK when rock and roll music was banned on public radio, so these individuals head out to International Waters and start a Pirate radio station that plays rock. It's interesting if you're a fan of old euro rock. As for The Invention of Lying, it's a dark comedy I found enjoyable. It's about a world where no one has developed the ability to lie for ANY reason, save for the main character played by Ricky Gervais, and it gets pretty wrong pretty quickly. Those are my recommendations anyway | |

| My 2nd movie reco is a movie called Black Death. I had not heard of this movie until i sore it on the Xbox 360 Dashboard. So i downloaded it and well it was not what i was expecting but i really did enjoy this movie. "Set during the time of the first outbreak of bubonic plague in England, a young monk is tasked with learning the truth about reports of people being brought back to life in a small village." It is about a group of men looking for a necromancer so they can kill him and end the black plague. Of course we know now that there are no such thing as witches and brining people back to life but back then it was different. So its not a fake lord of the rings type movie its very real when it comes to what people thought back then. If i was to rate this movie id rate it a 7-10. | |

| Shit yeah man, Black Death was sweet! By the way of your first 2 movies here, you seem to like the whole medieval/ancient times stuff, which is sweet. So for you, I recommend Soloman Kane. Based on a comic book, this is a pretty sweet, surprisingly brutal and well acted movie. Its about a man (Soloman, to be exact), who owes his soul to the devil. He flees Death and makes a peacful life (as opposed to his previous, rape and pilage lifestyle) as a holy man. But when England is threatened by the Devils forces and a mysterious sorcerer, he must once again pick up sword and gun and take on the bad mofo's. Its quite new, and also unfairly unknown. Stunning on Blu-ray. Oh, but for you, thats a 7gig download, so you might have to settle with second best (dvdRip) ; ) | |

| Ok now its time for a non Medieval movie because i have a pretty wide range of movie genre's that i like. This movie happens to be one of my favorite movies of all time called V For Vendetta. "A shadowy freedom fighter known only as "V" uses terrorist tactics to fight against his totalitarian society. Upon rescuing a girl from the secret police, he also finds his best chance at having an ally." The story is kind of easy to follow but may need to be watched twice. I know i got it on the first time but i have watched it many times. I love the whole Masked dark figure thing this movie has going for it. If i was to rate this movie id rate it about 8.5 out of 10. I know its in the IMDB's top 250 movies of all time. | |

| It is a good movie, but some argue that the original comics were better. I have yet to find the comics to see for myself, so I can't say for sure. Either way, the movie is still excellent and V is still one of the characters I use as the standard for Chaotic Good. | |

| Ive perused over the comics before. They were good, but I think Hugo Weavings excellent portrayal as V really gives the character much more depth than simple writting could have ever accomplished.
I take it everyone involved in this conversation has seent the movie then? If not, then look away NOW, becuase the following discussion is bound to include spoilers; One of my mates whom I lent this movie to, thought I was crazy for suggesting (or rather, outright stating) that V was the Natalie Portmans characters father. Have either of you been subject to people believing otherwise? Or more appropriately, do either of you think that V IS NOT her dad???

Also there is a sense of sexual chemistry between them. BUT in saying that its VERY possible he was. Its possible that V's fascination of Vengeance has made him forget shes his daughter because he does some fucked up shit to here not to mention lets her kiss his mask on the lips which is very intimate. Your thoughts?

| I didnt actually get any feeling of sexual tension between the two. I thought some of the things he puts her through were a bit over the top, but I assumed he must have lost touch of his humanity after his brutal encampment and severe burning.
But as you say, you only thought it might be possible? Did you not pick up on the fact that moments after the police talk of the girls father dying in a fire, you see V's burnt hands? Or it could be the other way around, but they are positioned in an order which has you thinking on the subject at the same time as seeing the next piece of the puzzle. Furthermore, he puts her throught the same test he was forced to with the jail, and it is hinted at (or confirmed?) that the messages on the toilet paper where from someone V himself encountered in jail?
Couple this with the previously stated talks of the girld father in the fire of the jail, and it all falls pretty well into place I think...
I havent watched the film in a while, but I think im remembering whats happening pretty clearly.

| i did catch onto the whole hands thing. But i thought that was just to easy. And i have thought each time ive watched it that maybe he was but if he was he wouldent of remembered it maybe. Because i got the feeling he didnt love her as a daughter but as a partner. Also there is the bit in the news station where he is considering to take her or to leave her. If your someones dad you dont have any thoughts of whether to leave her or not.
But i know and understand what your saying. Its one of those questions that you can never be 100% sure about unless its been said he was in the comic or like by the writer i dunno.

| Actuaolly, from what ive seen in the comic, it makes you think all sorts of wierd things about just who he is. It even hints that he is related other characters.
Also, one thing I think was better in the movie, was the fact that in the comic, Evey is a hooker (or at least, was). I like the more innocent Evey that the film portrayed. It gives off a lot more emotion I feel, when all the bad business goes on.

| And what you said before Hugo does a great job. Id just watched LOTR a day before V for vendetta and i was like "WHERE THE FUCK DO I NO THAT VOICE!" then i remember "Hello Mr Anderson from the matrix. I think hugo's voice is the only 1 that could of done V | |

What do you expect, it's a Miller comic. The guy seems oblivious to the fact that woman can have jobs BESIDES prostitute.

| The only difference between them is that Moore writes grim and grity well, and Miller......"I'm the Goddamn BATMAN!" | |

| This movie reco is one that is close to my heart. It isnt the best movie it only got an avg rating of like 6 out of 10 i think. It stars David Shwimmer who is ross in friends and its a pretty sad movie. But it really shows what happens all around the world when it comes to drunks losing there kids. "A down-on-his-luck, divorced father works the night shift at an Atlantic City casino. When his relationship with his young daughters and ex-wife is jeopardized by a run-in with the law, he struggles to get his life - and family - back together before it's too late. A moving and humorous look at the limits of unconditional love and what defines a family." It says humorous but maybe only has like a tad bit of funny in it. Please Download this movie hope you enjoy. | |

You can. And yes, ive seen it. Its a great film. Im a massive Darren Aronofsky fan, and this blew me away. So dark and twisted, with very real emotions and drama. Topped with what I believe is the best female performce ive seen in the last 5 years from the always excellent Natalie Portman, and Black Swan is a brilliant movie. But dont be surprised if you dont come away satisfied if you're not a Aronofsky fan though, becuase this is very stylized to his unique filmmaking, and is somewhat depressing, much like his controversial earlier work, Requiem for a Dream - one of my favourite films.

| Yeah bud, there are some really good quality ones. I got it myself about 2 months ago, and was excellent quality. Of course, Ive seen it at the cinemas since, but I feel that if they really want to combat illegal downloads, they should make it fair to international audiences and release the flim at the same time worldwide, because we're pretty much always given the shit end of the stick with movies. | |
